Ventura Surf Girlies is a women’s surf community in Ventura, California built specifically for beginners of all ages. It was created to fill a real gap in the surf world, where many surf groups existed but very few were truly designed for women who were just starting out.
What became clear early on was that beginners were not just looking for people to practice with — they were looking for a safe, supportive place to try surfing in the first place. Many were showing up without wetsuits, without surfboards, and without ever having paddled out before.
Learning to surf is hard enough on its own, but surf culture can also feel intimidating to new surfers. Between localism, territorialism, unspoken etiquette, and not having anyone to go with, many women never get enough reps in the water to build confidence and improve.
Ventura Surf Girlies was created to make surfing feel more accessible, supportive, and fun by offering beginners a real entry point into the sport. It has also grown into something bigger than just a place to get better at surfing — it is a social community of women who love the ocean, want to make new friends, and are often new to the area and looking for connection.
