Ventura Surf Girlies is the women’s surf community created for the woman who has always wanted to surf but has not known how to start or has struggled to practice consistently.
VSG was intentionally created for her.
Surf culture can feel intimidating, gear can be expensive, and paddling out alone is not something many women feel comfortable doing. She wants to surf, but she would not quite call herself a surfer yet.
All levels are welcome, but everything we do is designed with total and complete beginners in mind, including the woman who has never paddled out. We create welcoming ways for women to try surfing, learn at their own pace, access the gear they need, and meet other women who are learning too.

MEET THE FOUNDER
Hi, I’m Madi.
Long before Ventura Surf Girlies, I was the person bringing people together—hosting, merging friend groups, and planning group trips and bachelorette weekends. I even tried to build a group travel company. It did not unfold the way I expected, but it was preparing me for something I could not see yet.
I never planned to end up in Ventura. I thought I might move to Europe, but somehow I landed in this beautiful, underrated beach town instead. Finding Ventura, putting down roots here, and discovering the community I did not even know I needed was nothing short of a God thing.
When I started surfing, I had the gear—but not always other women to paddle out with. I invited a few girls to meet me at the beach, and three showed up without gear. They wanted to try surfing before investing in boards, wetsuits, or lessons, and they wanted other women to try it with. That was the gap.
They were not ready to invest in surfboards, wetsuits, or lessons before knowing whether they would even enjoy surfing. They simply wanted an opportunity to try it and other women to try it with. That was when I realized I had accidentally found a much bigger gap.
VSG grew from that first meetup. We have gathered extra surfboards, wetsuits, and gear for women to borrow so they can simply try. It brings together everything I care about—community service, friendship, travel, the ocean, and making people feel welcome. It feels incredibly full circle.

Every lesson, program, retreat, and purchase through VSG helps us keep community surf events free, grow our shared gear collection, and create more chances for women to find their people in and out of the water.
